Fish Beach Boats

oil on panel

When I think of painting island life, I don't think of painting a pretty sail boat on a sunny day. I try to find elements...the authenticity..of what island life really is. This painting of a Monhegan Island skiff was done from a photo I took on Fish beach. The " Clorox bleach" jug baler really represented authenticity to me. Taking my time with the weathered boat textures adds to this feeling of reality.
